Bus Stop Cards

Rather nice Routemaster greetings and Christmas cards.

I’ve recently collected RM 471 from Blackpool where it received some expert attention from the team at the Lancastrian Transport’s Trust BusWorks. On the way back I took it to the London Bus day at the Museum of Transport in Manchester. It was a really good event, expertly organized by Kelvin Platt and his colleagues. A grey drizzly Manchester day failed to dampen the enthusiasm for the London buses outside the museum and the free bus services to Victoria station. A collection of London buses of the period was lined up inside the museum and they were dressed up to look like Mortlake Garage 25 years ago, it closed in 1983. Inside it was warm and cosy with a brilliant atmosphere that was quite magical.

What I particularly liked:

  • Great organisation, expertly produced programme, attendance certificates and admission tickets
  • Being inside on a dull damp day
  • Excellent skilled help reversing the vehicles into the tightly packed formation.
  • Friendly welcoming staff
  • Well-behaved patient enthusiasts
  • The care taken to provide uncluttered and interesting photo opportunities for the photographers
  • The steaming mugs of tea, bacon butties, pies and mushy peas in the museum canteen
  • The museum itself with loads of beautifully presented exhibits and detailed information displays.
  • Seeing RM406 straight out of the BusWorks. Now returning to Dublin after her first appearance in the UK for over 20 years.

For some pictures I took on the day click here.

Changing a gearbox

It is a year since I posted some pictures of the work in progress on RM13. I’ve been to see what has been going on. In this update you can also see a Panhard Rod Crossmember in place and a B-frame which isn’t.
